AMISTAD CELEBRATES

48 YEARS!

Since 1976, Project Amistad staff and supporters have helped the elderly, persons-at-risk and persons with disabilities lead rewarding lives. We are advocates and service providers for the most vulnerable members of our community, always mindful that each client deserves to be treated with respect and dignity.

Amistad 48th Birthday Fundraiser

Wow! 48 years of proudly serving our community! Throughout the years, Amistad has seen many changes, faced challenges, experienced growth, but most importantly, has positively impacted the lives of thousands of people. What began as a project by Mrs. Lucy G. Acosta to provide transportation to elderly residents and persons with disabilities, has grown into a multi faceted organization serving El Paso and Far West Texas.

Today, Mrs. Acosta’s legacy lives on thanks to the support of staff and management, the Board of Directors, corporate sponsors, community partners, donors, and volunteers. Although the pandemic has brought on challenges, it has also brought more opportunities, expanding our reach to the people we serve. The difficulties of the past 12 months led us to “RHISE” to the occasion, basing every action on Amistad’s core values of Respect, Honesty, Integrity, Service, and Excellence, and with these principles we overcame our obstacles, and wholeheartedly continued to serve our beloved community.

Client Health and Welfare Fund

Our Client Health and Welfare Fund helps fund a variety of programs at Amistad, including:

  • Guardianship Program: Guardianship Case Managers visit clients on a monthly basis and ensure their medical, physical and social needs are being addressed and met. Sometimes our clients cannot afford basic needs such as clothing, shoes, adult diapers, blankets, etc. and Amistad provides them this additional assistance.

  • Amistad For Veterans Project: Assists our Veteran population with rent/mortgage and utility assistance, as well as Mental Health Counseling services.

  • Amistad Counseling Center: Provides low-income families and individuals with counseling services.

  • Peer Support Specialist Network: Empowers Adults with Developmental Disabilities (DD/IDD) in institutional settings. Individuals who live in institutions such as the State Supported Living Centers (SSLCs), Nursing Homes, or Intermediate Care Facilities (ICF-DD) settings are guided to Understand, Learn and Lead.

These are a few of the programs provided at Amistad and with your support, we can continue our Mission to advocate, connect and deliver social services to communities, ensuring a dignified and meaningful life for all.
