Respite Services for Family Caregivers

Respite provides a much needed temporary or short break from the challenges faced by family caregivers. Respite programs provide planned short-term breaks for families and other unpaid care givers of persons 60+, adults dealing with a chronic disease, as well as adults and children with a disability. This allows for stable support to the caregiver and helps to maintain the primary care giving relationship. Respite also provides a positive experience for the person receiving care.

Even though families take great joy in providing care to their loved ones so that they can remain at home, the physical, emotional and financial consequences for the family caregiver can be overwhelming. Respite has been shown to help sustain family members health and well being and avoid or delay out-of-home placements.
