Amistad to Host Food Drive to Provide COVID-19 Relief
Event Part of AmeriCorps National MLK Day of Service
El Paso, TX – Beginning January 11 through January 15, Amistad will be hosting a food drive at 3210 Dyer St. as part of MLK Day of Service, in partnership with AmeriCorps.
Although the holidays are over, the pandemic continues to affect the community’s livelihood. The MLK Day of Service encourages all Americans to improve their communities through volunteer service. Amistad is requesting the community’s help to provide COVID-19 relief for El Pasoans who are struggling to put food on the table for their families.
“We have planned a day of service at Amistad that will leverage the strength of local residents to help tackle local problems, such as food insecurity,” said Celia Garcia, COO of Social Service Programs. “All food donations will be distributed to families in need on January 18, Martin Luther King Jr. Day.”
Amistad encourages the community to get involved in MLK Day of Service by donating, volunteering, or hosting their own food drive. How to get involved:
- Amistad will be accepting non-perishable items, including:
- Cereal/oatmeal
- Pasta/Rice
- Canned fruit/vegetables/beans/soup/tuna
- Peanut butter/jelly
- Juice
- Baby food/formula
- Frozen food
- Granola bars
- Pancake mix
- Saltine crackers
- Monetary Donations: all proceeds will go towards the purchase of food for distribution. To donate, visit www.projectamistad.org/donate.
- Volunteer: host an individual food drive and drop off all items by January 15 or volunteer to distribute donations on January 18. For volunteer opportunities, call 915-298-1104.
All food donations can be dropped off from January 11th to the 15th, from 8 AM to 5 PM at 3210 Dyer Street.
