Amistad to Host MLK Drive-thru Food Distribution
Event Aimed to Assist Families Affected By Pandemic
El Paso, TX – Amistad’s VISTA Program will be hosting a MLK Drive-thru Food Distribution, in partnership with El Pasoans Fighting Hunger, on Monday, January 18 from 2 pm to 5 pm at 3210 Dyer Street. The event is in honor of MLK Day of Service and is part of a national AmeriCorps initiative.
This week, Amistad hosted a MLK Day of Service Food Drive, collecting donations to distribute to families who are currently struggling due to the pandemic. The response from the community has been exceptional, bringing in hundreds of donated non-perishable items by residents and organizations. El Pasoans Fighting Hunger has also joined forces with Amistad and will provide additional food supply to reach more families in need.
“We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the generosity and support we have received from the community and our partners,” said Celia R. Garcia, COO of Social Service Programs. “El Paso is a tight-knit community who always steps up during difficult times and exemplifies the meaning behind the MLK Day of Service, bringing people together to improve their community.”
In addition, Amistad received generous donations from Food City, Walmart, Sprouts, Target, EPCC Recovery Care Program and the community at large.
Amistad encourages residents to engage with the community and become part of this nationwide movement by volunteering for the MLK Drive-thru Food Distribution. Amistad adheres to CDC guidelines, including the use of face masks, temperature checks, and social distancing. For volunteer opportunities, please call 915-298-1104.
