During our 45th Birthday Fundraiser, Amistad held a fundraising competition among staff. Amistad staff created teams and reached out to donors to support our fundraising efforts, helping us surpass our goal!

DONATION DRIVE-THRU BIRTHDAY PARADE

To celebrate 45 years of serving El Paso and Far West Texas, Amistad invited the community to a donation drive-thru birthday parade, to help raise funds for the agency. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped us fundraise!

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

Amistad staff has been working continuously throughout the pandemic to provide essential services to our community. To thank our staff and to celebrate 45 years of service, out team enjoyed a well-deserved evening of fun with hamburgers and hot dogs, dessert, live music and raffle prizes!

AMISTAD IS HIRING

Amistad held a job fair on April 27 for immediate job vacancies for various full-time and temporary positions. Due to an increased demand for the services Amistad provides to the community, we are in need of filling these positions. AMISTAD PARTNERS WITH ALON/7-11

Amistad has partnered with Alon/7-11 to help raise funds for our Client Health and Welfare Fund. Donations are vital to our agency and any amount helps. Find Amistad donation cans at all participating Alon/7-11 stores from May 1st to May 31st!

AMISTAD HOLDS COVID-19 VACCINATION CLINIC

On April 29, Amistad held a COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic for clients, staff, family, and the community at large. In honor of Amistad staff who lost a loved one due to COVID-19, and in an effort to help inoculate more people, Amistad partnered with the Texas State Office of Emergency Management to administer Pfizer vaccines for persons 16 years of age and older.

AMISTAD CARES UTILITY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM CONTINUES

Amistad continues taking applications for the AmistadCARES Utility Assistance Program. The program can provide up to 12 months of assistance to cover past-due water, gas, and electric bills. AmistadCARES is set to run until September 31, 2021, but is contingent on funds availability.

Who qualifies?

Households with incomes no more than 80% of area median income (AMI)* meeting the following conditions:

One or more individuals in the household has:

• Qualified for unemployment benefits OR
• Has experienced a reduction in household income,
• Incurred significant costs,
• Experienced other financial hardship due directly or indirectly to the COVID-19 pandemic, AND
• Has received a past due utility notice

Requirements:

• Must reside within the City of El Paso limits
• Have an active and verifiable account with the utility company
• Must reside within the property for which the assistance is being requested
• Must NOT be receiving utility assistance from other sources

COMMUNITY IMPACT

Meet Mr. Ervin Butler, a client from our Camino a Casa Program, a partnership with the City of El Paso and other local organizations. Together, we are addressing homelessness in our community.

Mr. Butler had been residing at different shelters, and he was referred to Amistad from the Delta Center. Our Intensive Case Manager, Claudia Taylor, worked with Mr. Butler to find him an apartment and connected him to other community resources to help him acquire furniture and additional transportation. Through the program, Mr. Butler was also able to increase his hours at his current job, and he is now working on a 90-day program to continue to improve his quality of life.

VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION

In April, we celebrated our volunteers with an appreciation lunch. Our VISTA team, Valeria and Chris, work closely with all our volunteers to help meet the different needs of the agency. We appreciate our volunteers for choosing to help Amistad and for all the work they do to keep moving our Mission forward. Thank you!
