Amistad is Awarded $550,000 in Grants by the Texas Veterans Commission to Assist Veterans
El Paso, Texas – Today, Amistad announced it was awarded a total of $550,000 by the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Funds for Veterans’ Assistance to continue serving veterans and their families in our community through the Amistad For Veterans Project (AFVP).
The TVC has allocated a $300,000 General Assistance Grant and a $200,000 Mental Health Grant for its Fiscal Year 2020-2021, which begins in July 2020. These grants allow the AFVP to provide veterans with services such as transportation, including the Sun Metro bus pass, rent/mortgage/utilities financial assistance, employment training, counseling, and the ability to obtain requisite documentation to prove their veteran status. In addition, the TVC awarded Amistad a $50,000 Emergency COVID-19 Grant to cover the increased demand of services due to the current pandemic, allowing the agency to extend services to more veterans.
“We want our veteran community to know there is assistance available and we encourage them to apply for these services free of cost,” said Celia Garcia, COO of Social Service Programs. “We are very thankful to the TVC for their continuous support of the Amistad For Veterans Project (AFVP) throughout the years. Amistad is proud to be able to provide assistance to those who have served our country, especially during these difficult times.”
The TVC has funded the AFVP since the inception of the program in 2013, providing $2,075,000 in grants. These grants have allowed Amistad to serve hundreds of veterans and their families every year in El Paso.
