AmistadCARES Program to Provide Residents with Utility Assistance
El Paso, Texas – Beginning August 1, Amistad will launch the AmistadCARES Program to provide utility assistance to City of El Paso residents who have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The AmistadCARES Program will provide a one-time payment of up to $500 to cover past due utility bills from April 1, 2020 through December 2020. The one-time payment may cover up to three months of water, gas, and electric bills.
Residents interested in applying for the utility assistance must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Households who are at or below 80% Area Median Income (AMI)*; and
- Reside in the City of El Paso (excludes El Paso County); and
- Demonstrate a loss of income directly related to COVID-19; and
- Have an active and verifiable account with the utility company; and
- Must NOT be receiving utility assistance from other sources

“We know many El Pasoans are facing hardships at the moment and our goal is to relieve some of the financial stress through the AmistadCARES Program,” said Andrea Ramirez, Chief Executive Officer (CEO). “We are very appreciative of our continued strategic part-nership with the City of El Paso and for entrusting us with the funds, which enables us to deliver basic needs to our community.”
Amistad is one of the community partners chosen by the City of El Paso to receive a $500,000 grant as part of the federal assistance received from Congress through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. This grant will fund the AmistadCARES Program, which is projected to assist approximately 900 households within the City of El Paso.
