Amistad Concludes Utility Assistance Program
Other Assistance Programs Available
El Paso, Texas – Today, Amistad has concluded the AmistadCARES Utility Assistance Program, funded by the City of El Paso through CARES federal funding.
The AmistadCARES Utility Assistance Program, which began on August 3, 2020, provided financial assistance to families who were directly impacted by COVID-19. The $500,000 grant allowed Amistad to assist 710 families who faced economic challenges due the pandemic and who were past due on their electric, water, and gas bills.
“We are grateful to have been allowed the opportunity to help our community and relieve some of the financial stress brought on by the pandemic,” said Celia R. Garcia, Chief Operating Officer of Social Service Programs. “Although funding for this program has been depleted, we are still offering utility assistance through various programs for the elderly and veterans.”
Amistad continues to provide utility and rental assistance for veterans and their families, through the Amistad For Veterans Project, funded by the Texas Veterans Commission. In addition, persons who are 65 and older can apply for water utility assistance through AguaCares, a partnership with El Paso Water, which provides a one-time payment for past due water bills.
